The theme for this collection came me as I was working on a different piece, as I started to explore the negative space and movement that tubes on sloped surfaces at different heights and angles gave it reminded me of the coral reefs I had seen diving. The coral you see in nature grows to different heights, shapes and follows many angles, this is reflected in the setting of the tubes.
The moissanites set into the tubes capture the feeling of light streaming through from the surface and the colours of the sapphires, zircons and citrines the reflected light from the corals and the ocean. The tubes themselves reflect the rough nature of the coral with almost unfinished top surfaces to the tubes, but the stones set within are finished with a bright cut to highlight their facets.
Each piece is crafted from sterling silver, some with 9ct gold embellishments, and tube set with moissanites, zircons, citrines and Australian parti sapphires. Keum boo is also used in some pieces to reflect the shimmering effect seen on some of the larger coral banks.
