Sculptural Engagement Rings Engineered Around Material Provenance
Standing in deliberate opposition to mass-market uniformity.
Hand-built at the bench in Cambridgeshire using Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold and hand-selected ethical gemstones.
Reclaiming Weight, Structure, and Individual Character
Modern high-street engagement rings are overwhelmingly designed for industrial production, engineered to be light, thin, and uniformly symmetrical.
In my Cambridgeshire studio, I reject this homogenous approach in favour of architectural presence and tactile weight.
Drawing inspiration from Machine Age structural forms and organic geometry, every engagement ring is built directly at the bench. I frame stones inside robust, gold settings designed to protect your gems and withstand a lifetime of daily wear.
By pairing crisp geometric planes with raw, organic textures, I create engagement rings that possess undeniable physical authority, timeless elegance, and deep narrative character.
From Initial Sketch to Final Polish: Guided Transparency
Commissioning an engagement ring should be an inspiring, reassuring experience. Whether you arrive with a precise vision or a blank canvas, I guide you through every stage of the build with total transparency:
Ethical Stone Sourcing: I hand-select traceable Ocean Diamonds, unheated sapphires, and ethically mined coloured gemstones—presenting a curated selection of stones for you to compare in person or via high-resolution video.
Layout & Architectural Iteration: Through sketches and stone layouts, we explore proportions, spatial tension, and stone arrangement until the design feels entirely right.
Bench-to-Client Updates: You remain connected to the creation of your piece. As metal is melted, forged, and hand-set at the bench, I share direct photo and video milestones along the way.
Featured Commission: Helen’s Leaf-Inspired Cluster Ring
Helen spent years searching high-street jewellers for a cluster ring, but found only standard, overly uniform grids that lacked individual personality. She sought an organic, fluid silhouette where gemstones held a natural rhythm rather than a rigid pattern.
Working together, we combined elements from two initial layout concepts to engineer an asymmetrical, leaf-inspired arrangement framing many different stone shapes. Individually, mid-build, we both felt the setting, didn't meet our expectations, I rebuilt it from scratch to ensure the piece’s structural harmony.
"At one point we both independently decided the setting wasn't quite right and Iain just re-did it. It gave me complete confidence that he was just as keen as I was to get it perfect." — Helen
Traceable Gold & Ethical Gemstones
The emotional weight of an engagement ring relies entirely on the integrity of its origin. I work exclusively with materials that respect both the environment and the craft:
Single Mine Origin (SMO) Gold: Every grain of yellow, white, and rose gold is fully traceable to responsibly managed mine sites with verifiable environmental and community stewardship.
Circular gold: If you do not want new gold I frequently recover gold from heritage pieces (such as from heirloom pieces and auctions) and realloy the gold from them to the required purity
Ocean Diamonds & Traceable Gemstones: Sourced directly from certified ethical suppliers, including Ocean Diamonds gathered by divers off the seabed with minimal environmental footprint.
