Signature Sandcast Textures & Ethical Alloy Provenance

A wedding band is a daily companion that should age with character.

My bespoke bands focus on sandcast texture - a traditional bench technique where molten gold is poured directly into a sand mould, imprinting the surface with a rich, organic grain that artificial machine finishes cannot replicate. Once the band is cast the surface touching the skin is highly finished to ensure full comfort.

Every band forged is made with fully traceable Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold or 100% reclaimed gold (always the client’s choice). This ensures your piece holds verifiable ethical provenance from mine to bench, resulting in a wedding band with striking visual impact, deep texture, and uncompromised structural integrity.

Re-Melting Ancestral Metal at the Bench

For couples with inherited jewellery, that they want to repurpose I offer a circular goldsmithing practice that gives legacy metal a second life. Rather than letting sentimental pieces sit unworn in a drawer, I re-melt client-supplied gold down at my bench to re-forge into your custom wedding band.

Whether incorporating your family gold into a smooth architectural band or sandcasting it for a textured finish, every grain of ancestral metal is carefully assessed, refined, and re-alloyed in-house to preserve 100% of its sentimental provenance.

Remote Fitting & Guarantees Across Borders

Planning a bespoke wedding ring from afar requires complete trust and zero guesswork. When working with remote or international clients, I eliminate uncertainty around sizing, profile, and proportion before touching a single grain of precious alloy.

I create custom sterling silver test prototypes set with low-cost stones matched to your design's exact scale. Shipped directly to your door, these physical test rings allow you to wear, test, and assess the exact fit and comfort in real life, giving you absolute confidence in the final piece before I begin working in gold.

Featured Case Story: Re-Forging Great-Grandmother’s Gold

Living abroad, Simon and Rebecca wanted wedding bands with profound family provenance, re-working original gold rings belonging to Simon’s great-grandmother.

To navigate the design process from afar, I built silver test prototypes set with sample stones and shipped them directly overseas so they could test the fit in real life. Back at my bench, I re-melted the generational gold, casting the metal into sand gathered from Diamond Bay in Iceland to forge a wide Art Deco band for Simon and an organic Art Nouveau inspired leaf-and-sapphire setting for Rebecca.

"Iain advised truthfully that my original idea wouldn’t hold up to daily wear, and I valued his honesty so much. Sizing and fit were the most important parts for me, and he did it perfectly—even while living abroad." Simon

Tactile Surfaces & Structural Presence

A wedding ring is a daily companion. Rather than standard high-street polishes that dull uniformly over time, I focus on distinct surface textures and structural profiles that age with character:

  • Sentimental Sandcasting: Casting molten gold into sand gathered from coastlines or landscapes of personal significance, imprinting the metal with a rich, tactile grain (Sentimental Topography).

  • Architectural Profiles: Sharp Deco step-cuts, bevelled edges, and sculpted planes that give a band striking visual impact from every angle.

  • Flush-Set Accents: Hand-setting subtle diamonds or sapphires directly into the band to add quiet depth without disrupting the ring's overall silhouette.

Once the band is cast or forged any surface touching the skin is highly finished to ensure a lifetime of comfort.
